Sunburst Mirror

If you are wondering what is a sunburst mirror? It simply mimics the look of sun with a circular center and beautiful designs on the sides that look like sun rays. Not so common but they are still in style for warm, bold, and colonial style homes.

DIY Mirror Glass Painting

Recently mine was losing the glue that was keeping the tiny mirrors intact and I use gorilla wood glue to stick them back occasionally. However, one fine day I feel like giving it a new life. I have some leftover pearl oil glass paint after finishing paint maple leaf glass frame and use it to paint the sunburst leaving the center as DIY mirror.

Instructions and Material

The instructions for this project are simple.

You can use painter’s tape around the edges and areas of mirror where you don’t want the paint to reach (optional).

Now pour pearl stained glass paint in a disposable plate and use any basic paintbrush to dab the paint and move it around on the glass.

This will create a translucent, shimmering effect which is ideal for patterns that are floral, geometric, or abstract in design. Pearl finishes are ideal for gold, silver, and pastel materials. You can also mix pearl colors to other paints for making custom pearl colors. Pearl paints appear translucent but dry with more opaque.

Once you are done painting, you can use odorless solvent to clean your paintbrush.

If you will not complete the project in one go it is ideal to pour some paint out and use as you go. Make sure to clean your paintbrush with rinsing solution before keeping it aside for the next project.

Allow the paint to dry overnight or 24 hours. You can also add another layer once the first one dries if required. (optional)

You can also dab and blend two colors while the paint is wet with paintbrush for texture effect.

Use clear varnish to seal and protect the painting on mirror once the paint has fully cured.
