Make this cool and fancy DIY hand lettering art with letter styles and cursive writing technique with acrylic paints on canvas.
I saw a vintage paper with ancient script and got inspired to create a hand lettering art! The fun part about creating an acrylic painting inspired by old scripts is that it doesn’t have to be perfect! Old lettering ideas can use the principles of deterioration and natural disintegration which makes the letters look unclear but attractive.
When you think about lettering and typography, calligraphy comes to your mind! But calligraphy is a form of art that follows beautiful rules to get those curves and shapes that make it unique!
However, the concept I am using to paint this cool lettering art is following the Arabic alphabets natural curves and moves. Use paintbrush to make beautiful patterns and fancy lettering. You can use this technique for cursive lettering and different lettering styles.
I am using Arabic lettering which is taken into Persian script which makes Urdu lettering as well.
How to paint hand lettering art on canvas?
I start with a water wash of yellow ochre to coat the entire canvas! This will give it an old paper rustic look!
Next I use a ruler to draw lines making sure all letters are in alignment!
Then I lightly draw the letters. You can use a pencil but it will leave the marks, therefore, a charcoal pencil is recommended!
Use black acrylic paint and a medium size paintbrush to make fine strokes! These squirrel hair professional grade paintbrushes are for watercolors but they are excellent quality for working with acrylic paints as well. These strokes don’t have to be perfect but keep a natural curve for the symbols and letters.
Try to bring variation in your curves thickness for movement and flow.
