Handmade nylon flowers

Sunflower has a tall coarse stem with large yellow-rayed flower head. It produces edible seeds rich in oil and belongs to the Daisy family. Interestingly, it’s an amazing flower; when the sun rises it faces the east and follows the sun to the west till the day ends. And is therefore, named “Sunflower”.

In this post, I am sharing a very easy tutorial to craft the sunflower in very little time. It is a very unique flower and can bring an interesting charm in any room and decoration. Mix sunflowers with vintage or modern pieces to define any area in your home.

Nylon flower instructions

MAKE IT:
  • To make these flowers, you will need 11 petals ring size (4) and 13 petals ring size (5) for each sunflower. To make the petals; wind the wire (gauge #22 or #24) around the ring, twist at the end and cut the excess with the plier. Stretch the wire to shape like a ray and wrap nylon over the ring, thread at the end and cut the excess with scissors.
  • If you do not understand the petals instructions, see step-by-step tutorial with images.

  •  Squeeze a generous amount of white glue (gorilla or super glue; you choice) inside the bud and at the end of the petal and place it in position on the bud, as shown. Continue gluing all the petals following in the sequence, one small and one large petal till all the petals are glued and secured. You will also need to apply some pressure with your fingers to secure the petals in position.

  •  Once all the petals are glued. Cut a round piece of paper, smaller than the bud and glue it over the petals to hide the wires and sandwich the petals.

  • Now cut some leaf-shaped papers and glue them under the flower, passing through the stem to give it an original look.

  •  Finally make some leaves with green nylon and thread them on the stem wire and your sunflowers and ready to display.

You can also make a stronger sunflower by threading the petals inside the bud.
You can follow the instructions used in making Nylon Daisies.
