Make rosette pillow to spruce up your living room with decorative throw pillows. Sew fabric rosette to make a pillow. I love the burlap pillow with red fabric rosettes. Let’s get started with the tutorial to make a throw pillow.

Hi everyone!  My name is Shelley. And I am beyond thrilled to be guest posting on Craftionary today! I am a stay-at-home mom who finds sanity through creating.  My blog Crazy Wonderful is my happy place where I can post my favorite Izzy adventures. And the creating that happens when she sleeps.

Material needed:

  • Piece of fabric (about 1.5 inches wide and a little over 1 yard in length)
  • Embellishment (anything goes broach, button, old earring etc)
  • Clip
  • A small felt piece
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine (optional but much faster)

Step by step Instructions to make fabric rosettes

Fold your flower by laying the strip of fabric down flat. And bringing the rest of the strip up. And over to the right so that it forms a 90 degree angle in the center. Repeat this pattern until a square opening in the center has been formed. Continue to repeat the same pattern bringing the fabric closer to the center each time.

When about 6 inches of fabric is remaining. Fold long ways and press with iron to keep it firm. Keep folding and ironing towards the center.

Give a very good press on the last fold of the fabric. This helps to keep the folds in place.

How to sew fabric rosettes?

Sew the rosette’s layers together. (It’s optional to use a sewing machine. And following this method which is a lot faster. You can sew the layers in place with the help of your thread and needle. Or use fabric glue to keep the layers in tact).

I used my sewing machine. And started by unfolding the rosette. (this is where pressing the folds comes in handy) And began sewing at the first fold. Once you get over the fold stop with the needle down in the fabric. Release the pressure on your foot. And rotate the rosette clockwise.

Put the pressure foot back into position. And start sewing again until you cross over the next fold.  Repeat this process until you reach the end.

In the end fold the last piece of fabric under the pressure foot. And done.

This is what the front and back of the flower should look like once it’s sewn.

How to make rosette pillow?

Use hot glue to stick the embellishes to the centre of the flower.  I chose to stitch my embellishment down because it had several openings. And I didn’t want the hot glue to come up through those and show.

Cut out a circle from felt smaller than the flower. Stitch the clip to the piece of felt with the back of the clip facing out.

Hot glue the felt to the back of the flower.

Do a little fashion show for yourself. And see all the different ways you can wear it.

My favorite is wearing it as a headband.

or you can stitch rosettes on the pillow.
